About the School

St. Margaret's Children's House was established in 1986, through the efforts of Scott and Margot Ritchie. Margot Ritchie is the great-great granddaughter of Margaret Fleming. The school is an outreach of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, the oldest Episcopal church in Clay County. SMCH is located eight miles south of Orange Park, on Fleming Island. The preschool is nestled in the woods near the St. Johns River, surrounded by native oaks, magnolias, and pines.

The history of the area has been recorded in Margaret Seton Fleming Biddle's, The Unreturning Tide and Eugenia Price's Margaret's Story.
